At the center of this monument is a metal sculpture surrounded on three sides by a "Wall of Honor," listing the names of 209,145 United Colored Troops on 166 burnished stainless steel plaques arranged by regiment. The plaque on this record (plaque C-53) memorializes the 38th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry.
