Oil painting portrait of man with grey hair looking upward to his left
Henry Longfellow purchased this painting in Naples in 1869 from Mrs. Lydia C. Whyte. Both Longfellow and his daughter Alice considered this to be by Jacques Louis David, an attribution that is no longer believed. It hangs in the parlor ante-room.
