“Sir
From the letter [illegible due to missing paper] have will you, and advice [illegible due to missing paper] Mssrs E G Faile & Co I have taken the liberty of writing you in respect to our unfortunate friends Mssrs Lee & Townsend of your place, we hold this note for $537 80/100 Dolls (say Five Hundred & thirty seven 80/100 Dollars) we have rec’d a letter from them about the 1st Jany last stating their inability to pay all their debts. That they would make an assigment of their effects for the Joint Interest of their creditors or would give their notes for ten shillings on the pound payable at the Geneva Bank with a responsible endorser We learn that it will be Orin Chamberlain as to his standing we know nothing [illegible due to missing paper] he be good or any other person whom would be satisfactory to you would be offered – should you be willing to
over"

" to take the trouble you will please accept their offer and when you should come to the city we will [remunerate?] you for all trouble [illegible due to missing paper] Obt Servant A Baldwin of the firm Oakford & Baldwin
New York 15th Feby 1828.
NB In addition to this note we send you there is a mistake in their bill of 12 May 1827 in the case of a pipe [Gin?] 124 net Dollars of $12 22/100 Dolls Less added to the note will amount to $550.30/100 Dolls – their offer was to give two notes at 4 & 6 months but we should prefer one at 4 mos or even 5 months one creditor they have settled at 4 mos and an other [illegible due to missing paper] more than 10/ on the pound we [illegible due to missing paper] & collection of the notes should be added – collection is one per cent however anything you will please to do will meet our approbation Yours Respty
