This seascape was purchased by Henry Longfellow on April 26, 1844. He recorded the purchase in his journal: “Bought at auction a beautiful sea-piece of Isabay, the younger, of which the catalogue says, ‘Nothing can be finer than the freedom and transparency of this picture.’”
