Short-haul training, Ash Mountain Helibase, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, summers 2003-2004
During emergency helitack operations, it is occasionally necessary to perform external transport of patient and/or park personnel a short distance to a good landing site where internal loading can take place. These images show training exercises using the equipment used to accomplish these operations. The short-haul program was initiated in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks (SEKI) in 2003, and became fully operational in the summer of 2004. Training, with participation by SEKI and Yosemite NP helitack crew members, is given at Ash Mountain helibase in the early summer.
