LIBI_00019_00498; This item is an original albumen, card-mounted photograph of a group of 14 people and several dogs in front of a tent on a buffalo hunt while camped near Fort Hayes, Kansas. The photograph is 4 3/4 x 7 1/2" (8" x 9 7/8" mounted"). As noted on page 85 of D. Mark Katz's book, the image was produced in 1869 and is attributable to W.J. Phillips of Preston, Missouri. Katz identifies the subjects, from left to right, as: Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer, Miss Talmadge, Captain William Thompson, Lord Waterpark, Lord Paget, Lieutenant Myles Moylan, Captain Thomas Weir, Colonel Samuel D. Sturgis, Lieutenant William W. Cooke, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Custer, Lieutenant Thomas W. Custer, Captain Brewster, Mrs. Godfrey and Mr. Talmadge. On the front, a handwritten notation in pencil reads, "A. and 2 English guests/Col. Weir/G.A./Col. Thompson/Col. Cook/Gen'l Sturgis/Tom Custer." On the verso, a handwritten notation in pencil reads: "Kansas/Buffalo hunt given to/Lord Waterpark/Lord Paget/Officers of the
