The image is in black and white. Near the center of the photo is the entrance to the hotel, part of which covers the road. The pillars for this covered area are rock pillars, and a sign under the eave of the roof reads, "Volcano House." Above this area is a bump out on the second floor. To the right of this area is a covered porch, with a few doors and windows visible. On the left of the entrance is a tower extending from the first floor and merging with the second, windows lining the sides. On the other side of the tower is another wing of the building, with windows on both floors. A chimney rises from the main section of the building. Extending from the entrance is a continuation of a roadway, with a large flowering bush in the middle. Two paths branch off to the left and right of this central area. Two boys in the bottom left corner of the image can be seen sitting at the bottom of a staircase. Along the bottom of the image, a caption reads, "Kilauea Volcano House, Hawaii National Park."
A wide shot of the hotel, including the front grounds.
