S. G.Sollenberger Acting Supt. GNMP to Ernest Hammaker Sept. 10, 1963
White paper with typed black text
Mr. Ernest Hammaker
Thurmont, Maryland
Dear Mr. Hammaker:
It appears from our correspondence that sometime prior to April 1, 1963, the United Daughters of the Confederacy voted unanimously to have the monument, honoring all soldiers and sailors of the Confederacy, of Georgia blue granite. The name of a Mr. Reese appears in our correspondence as the designer.
We have a design sketch in our files, which apparently was also voted approved.
Mrs. Robert Hamilton Smith, 1800 Harris Road, Philadelphia 18, Pennsylvania, is President-General of the UDC and, I believe, is Chairman of the Committee for Promotion of Monument to Army and Navy of Confederate States of American [sic] to be Erected at Gettysburg National Military Park.
Sincerely yours,
S.G. Sollenberger
Acting Superintendent
