Monument commemorating the holding of this position by 49th New York Regiment at the Battle of the Bloody Angle, May 12, 1864 during the Battle of Spotsylvania. Erected by survivors in 1902. || Rough-hewn, tooled edge, stepped base 2'Hx 3'4"Wx 3'4"D supports square shaft 6'H w/ 4 polished faces bearing incised inscription. Rough-hewn, rounded capital is inscribed on 4 sides w/ Corps insignia & topped by stacked cannon balls.
