PISTOL. PAIR OF PISTOLS WITH INLAID STOCK OF SILVER; FLORAL PATTERN OF VERY THIN SILVER WIRE. TRAVELLING, FLINTLOCK PISTOLS. MADE IN ENGLAND? TAG FOUND WITH PISTOLS FROM THE ADAMS MEMORIAL: "THESE TRAVELING PISTOLS BELONGED TO JOHN QUINCY ADAMS. HIS SON CHARLES FRANCIS ADAMS LEFT THEM TO BROOKS ADAMS IN HIS WILL. THEY ARE PART OF THE IDENTIFIED PROPORTY OF BROOKS ADAMS - HENRY ADAMS JULY 12, 1946" . HENRY ADAMS MENTIONS THE PISTOLS IN THE EDUCATION, CHAPTER 1 PP 14: "He hung about the library; handled the books; deranged the papers; ransacked the drawers; searched the old purses and pocket-books for foreign coins; drew the sword-cane; snapped the travelling-pistols; upset everything in the corners, and penetrated the Presidents dressing-closet..." NOTE - WAS STOLEN, RECOVERED BY QUINCY POLICE, AND RETURNED TO THE ANHP ON MONDAY, MARCH 24, 1980.
