“Waterloo 1Mo 20th 1827
Esteemed Friend
Isaac Merritt thine of the 18th [last?] was duly recd and would have been answered , but I have been waiting to see what the prospects was for Clover Seed. I found it is quite scarce and the farmers require about 12 ½ cents p lb Wheat is now selling @ from 6/to 6/3 p Bu Corn 3/6 Rye 4/ Oats 25 to 30 [cts?] If thee wishes to purchase any Clover Seed I think I could buy 30 or 40 bus for thee. I am sorry thee settled with the Troy & Black Rock Line as they did not take the Wheat & Flour from Waterloo I sent it to Montesuma at my Expense 11mo 20th 1825 when they agreed to send it to Troy Imediately. I then drew a draft on thee for $50 to be paid on safe delivery of 50 Bbls Flour & 40 Bbls Wheat & paid them $13 in cash for all of Which I have their Recpt I wish thee to say to them I must have paid back to thee on my a/c 2/-p Bbl over charge on 89 Bbls is $22.25 also for one Bbl of Superfine Flour not del’d - $4.00-- Cash paid. L.F. Knapp pr Recpt 13.00 $39.25/100 They did not present the draft I gave on thee for $50 and of course it was not paid nor will not be paid, I told Abner not to Settle their Bill but send them to me as I had an off set which I presume he forgot from thy Assured friend R.P. Hunt [PS?] I will settle thy a/c in the Spring or before if Required please give me thy opinion about the Spring Market”
