Soldiers from Company E, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment 'Rangers', 1st Infantry Division, First Army aboard the USS Samuel Chase enroute to Easy Red Sector of Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944. Some of these soldiers joined the regiment while at Fort Jay. By this time in WWII, they had landed in North Africa in 1942 and Sicily in 1943. For those who survived, they were the most combat-experienced troops in the US Army.
