“6th day eve Waterloo 3 mo 31 Richard dear I have just received thy letter. I am [ ] sorry George should have told thee what Sarah wrote – Thee may rest assured if thy dear Father had not very soon got better thee would have been sent for – The ‘paralytic stroke’ he had was slight & now he seems quite well. He was up here & made a call this morning. The Doctor said he would be better than be it [appeared]. If Burroughs was as well I should feel quite happy - He is very sick indeed – no change for the better yet. I feel oh, so anxious – Richard dear I think of thee often & that it must be exceedingly lonely for thee. Thee must try & keep up good spirits – It is but a short time before thee will come home. I cannot write more I am almost sick – May our heavenly Father enable me to give thee better news of Burroughs before long – With much love thy Cousin Lizzie”
