Mahone Monument
Monument erected to CSA Maj. Gen. William Mahone, who commanded the troops brought to Crater to counterattack Federal breakthrough. His strategy helped to throw back the Federals. Erected by UDC, Petersburg Chapter. || 2 part Monument. Base, 9'x9'x4'H, of 3 parts, stepped rough-cut & smooth-cut cove. Obelisk 2 part shaft: 1st: smooth-cut w/ incised inscription. 2nd: Coursed, tapered rusticated shaft topped w/ smooth-cut pryamidal roof. 4'sq x 24'H.
