1. Gov. Oliver P. Norton, made the first installment payment towards Indianas share (18 Northern States) in the expenses of the Soldiers National Cemetary at Gettysburg. May 27, 1864 (Check #2,252 for $1,156.00)
2. Gov. Conrad Baker, approved H.B. 350 with the amendment to pay Indianas balance ($4,625,85) for the establishment and improvements of the Soldiers National Cemetary at Gettysburg, Pa. Mar. 11, 1867. Gov. Norton delivered the Oration July 1, 1869 the cemetery dedication.
3. Gov. Isaac P. Gray, approved H.B. 327 with Sec. 2 Item 14 to appropriate $3,000 ($500 per marker) to erect 6 regimental markers to each Hoosier unit that saw action at Gettysburg to help “Mark the line of Battle”. Mar. 5, 1885.
4. Gov. Thomas R. Marshall, (Vice-President of the United States 1913-20.) approved H.B. 375 for the participation of the State of Indiana in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1913, and for the appointment of a Commissioner by the Governor to superintend the preparations for the same and making the necessary appropriation ($1,000). Mar. 6, 1911.
5. Gov. Samuel Ralston, approved H.B. 507 for the appointment of a Gettysburg Anniversary Commission and asking an appropriation for expenses $20,000. 1913. The Indiana Civil War Veterans and the Governor all attended the Peace Jubilee and Pres. Wilson dedicated the cornerstone to the Peace Monument.
6. Gov. Clifford Townsend, approved S.B. 236 an Act making an appropriation to enable the State of Indiana to participate in the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Eternal Light Peace Memorial. $5,000, Mar. 20, 1937. Indiana was one of only five Northern States to participate. The Memorial was dedicated by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt.
7. Gov. Roger D. Branigin, approved H.B. 1095 creating the Indiana Gettysburg Memorial Commission for an Indiana State Memorial and appropriated $20,000. Dedicated July 1, 1971 by Gov. Edgar D. Whitcomb. Act signed by Gov. Otis R. Bowen, M.D. Feb. 25, 1967 as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Approved Mar. 1, 1967
8. Gov. Otis R. Bowen, M.D., approved design of the Indiana State Stepping Stone Memorial, submitted by Bedford Limestone Suppliers, Inc.
