Description: Despite being segregated from the rest of the US Army, the African American army soldiers, also called 'Buffalo Soldiers', served with distinction, honor and dignity. These valiant men would go on to serve in nearly every major conflict and war that the army participated in for over 80 years. In addition to their military duties, the Buffalo Soldiers also served as some of the first caretakers of our national parks. It is interesting to note that with the disbanding of the 27th Cavalry on December 12, 1951, the last of the segregated Buffalo Soldier regiments came to an end.
