On front of document: “Troy 19th March 1827 Richard P. Hunt Esteemed friend Thy Letter of the 20th Jany was duly Rec’d but I have defered answering it untill I had seen G.P. Griffith about the business mentioned in thy Letter. He is unwilling to refund me the amount Stated by thee, but will endeavor to have thee satisfied on the subject. When thee visits this place the present Spring----- The River is not yet entirely clear of Ice, altho some of our neighbours have got their Sloops along side of the dock & preparing to load them ---- My last advices from New York are of the 16th Inst.---- Wheat & flour have been gradually declining for a number weeks – my correspondent (J.H. Mabbett) informs me that early the present month a few a few Thousand Bus of Wheat was sold on contract at $1.06 pr Bus – deliverable after the opening of the canal – on the 15th Inst. a quantity was sold at 8/ deliverable in July –& 1000 Bbls canal flour at 39/ - deliverable in June.—Rye is now worth in that market 80 [cents] - corn 62 to 64 [cents] - Oats 40 [cents] Mess pork $11 ¾ - Prime [pork] $8 – Hams 8 [cents] pr lb. Lard 9 [cents] &c - The prices of produce in general Will not probably be much if any higher than it was last Year We are building another Vessel & expect to have three vessels[inserted] employed in this season & Should thee give us thy freighting and forwarding business We will endeavor to do it to thy satisfaction Thy assured friend Isaac Merritt Pr A Loveland” On back of document: "Richard P Hunt Waterloo Seneca County New York" illegible postmark in black ink "Isaac Merritt Letter 3mo19th1827"
