As atmospheric carbon dioxide levels increase from human-driven processes like burning fossil fuels, the ocean absorbs more of it, changing the pH of the water. This causes it to become more acidic. Since the industrial revolution, there has been about a 30% increase in acidity. Sampling helps us study this change.
