Fuel Contamination at Aiken Mine in Sept 05 & April 06
Aiken Mine is a 10 acre abandoned cinder mine that is in the middle of the Cinder Cones National Natural Landmark. The mine site is contaminated from petroleum fuel spills.a The contamination includes surface and subsuface soils, two underground storage tanks (USTs), on above ground storage tank (AST), an oil change pit, and a former generator building. The levels of contamination are above California State cleanup levels. This picture will help the PMIS reviewers better understand the significance of project 131065 (Remove 3 Fuel Storage Tanks at Aiken Mine and Remediate Fuel Contaminated Soils).
