Two men in suits wearing boutonnieres. The man on the left has his arms crossed.
Elliott "Tony" Roosevelt, Jr. and his father Elliott pose together at Tony's wedding to JoAnne McFadden in Evanston, Illinois. Tony is the oldest son of Elliott and his second wife, Ruth Googins.
Elliott Sr. (1910-1990) was the second son and third child of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt. He attended Groton but, unlike his brothers, did not attend Harvard. Instead he embarked on a series of jobs before settling on a career in communications in the early 1930s. Elliott distanced himself from the family when as a member of the Texas delegation at the 1940 Democratic National Convention he proposed to nominate Jessie Jones for vice-president rather than support FDR's candidate, Henry Wallace. The breach with his parents was repaired during World War II when he accompanied FDR as a military aide to the Casablanca meeting of 1943 and the Cairo-Teheran Conference of 1944.
