Completion of replacement of concrete pads, steps, and curbing around the Confederate Monument in May 2012
The existing concrete around the monument, including 10 sets of steps, has been in place since the monument was erected and is deteriorating with pieces crumbling, cracking, and rising, which is causing a serious tripping hazard. This project consists of replacing all of the concrete around the Confederate monument. This includes several sets of steps, pads, and curbing. Work will consist of removing all existing concrete and hauling to the landfill, installing steel and pouring class A ready mix concrete, erect/install handrails and landscape disturbed area. This particular monument is the most visited in the park and is easily accessed from the main road which runs in close proximity. This project was completed in May 2012. The concrete repair portion of this project was completed by the Historic Preservation Training Center crew, and the archeology was contracted to the New South Associates company.
