Caches on stilts like this one next to the Gidding's Cabin at Onion Portage were a common way for people to keep their food out of animals' reach at backwoods homesites. Note the metal sleeves on the legs to prevent critters from scaling the stilts. Small log cabin on stilts with ladder.
