Park helicopter lands in various types of terrain found in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, summers 2000-2003
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks' helicopter is called upon to perform a wide variety of missions, including fire, search and rescue, law enforcement, maintenance, and backcountry operational support of many kinds. Usually backcountry helispots are by necessity 'found' sites rather than created. Helicopter performs missions from lower-density altitudes, such as 1600 feet, up to higher-density altitudes upwards to 16,000 feet. Availability and characteristics of helispots found vary drastically at different locations within and surrounding these parks. These images show a selection of these sites.
