Indian Prision with Wagons and Horse Teams in Front of It, Fort Hays, Kansas
LIBI_00019_00510; This item is an original albumen, card-mounted photograph of the Indian Prison at Fort Hayes, Kansas with wagons and horse teams in front of the building. The photograph is 3 x 5 1/4" (4 1/8" x 6 1/4" mounted) and was produced in 1869. The photographer was possibly W. S. Soule. The mount, a heavy paper stock, is in poor condition with the upper left corner cut off and torn on the left edge border. A typed tag is adhered to the front and reads, "Indian Prison, Fort Hayes, Kas. 1869." A handwritten notation reads, "Property of David [illegible word]." On the envelope included with this item, a handwritten notation reads, "Indian Prison at Hays" and signed by Elizabeth B.
