The marina bulkheads at Flamingo, located on the tip of the Florida peninsula, serve as the primary entrance point for visitors, researchers and park staff into the waters of Whitewater and Florida Bays, which are known worldwide for premier fishing and wildlife viewing, and unique environmental resources including one of the largest mangrove communities in North America. The bulkheads date from the 1960s and have deteriorated due to exposure to the elements and various hurricanes.
