Verbena stricta - native; Alternate names: Hoary verbena, hoary vervain, tall vervain; Blooms July - September; This hardy plant is native to much of North America and is very common in the park. It can be found in a variety of habitats including those with dry, sandy soils and disturbed areas. Each flower stalk grows to approximately two feet tall, each clustered with flowers that are about a half inch in diameter. The flowers provide energy to pollinating insects, while the seeds provide food for birds and small mammals.
