Monument contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among Federal Civil War veterans to commemorate the site of Andersonville Prison by erecting state monuments.
East Inscription
U.S. National Park Service
Of granite, the 5'7" x 4'3" x 8' high monument has a quarry-faced base with a smooth-faced, four-sided inscribed shaft and a small ball finial on top. A carved eagle appears above the inscription on the front.
