Morning Star Mine's Cyanide Heap Leach Pads
Morning Star Mine is an abandoned open pit gold mine. There are two cyanide heap leach pads on the mine site that contain approximatley 2,000,000 tons of cyanide contaminated material. The levels of contamination are above California State cleanup levels. The mine is in the middle of the Critical Habitat for the Threatened Desert Tortoise. These pictures will help the PMIS reviewers better understand the significance of projects 75018, 126546, 126547, and 126548 which are all related to the cleanup an reclamation of Morning Star Mine and it cyanide heap leach pads.
