Projectile Point (FOUS 1403)
Metal projectile point.
“In ancient times the heads were rudely hammered out of flint,” an unattributed 1870 Harpers Weekly article, “Making Arrows,” said, “but now they are made from hoop-iron and are of course much more effective.” Most likely made before Fort Union’s 1867 closure, this iron point that Fort Union archeologists unearthed substantiates the Harpers Weekly claim.
