Mrs. Forrest Gertrude Kibler General Chairman UDC to Kittridge Wing Supt. GNMP Jan. 23, 1964
White paper with handwritten black text
going to be made to bring pressure on the Parks Service to still allow his name on it. They will tell you that Miss. passed a bill with his name and that Miss will not pay unless you allow his name on it. This is not the wish of the majority but it is the wish of some high in power in S.C.V. who have not raised any of the $31,000 – Quote from letter sent by S.C.V. to S.C.V.
“I am still of the opinion that the inscription for our memorial may be amended as to include the name of Walter Washington Williams as a symbol.”
I had 25 copies of the rules you sent me made + I sent them to the all connected –
The letter further takes up the Miss. bill passed which was the year before he was elected and he had nothing to do with it. Please abide by your rules concerning individuals, especially one whose record is as obscured as Mr. Williams is. The fact he lived 2 years longer than the rest is not reason to erect a monument to him. The state of Texas has erected one to him + paid him further recognition and a member of Texas Centennial Commission writes he is not in favor of him on this monument – that he has received full recognition in his native state for outliving others – also a member of my committee writes that she will never vote for De Lue design as it is too much like an ornament on the radiator cap of an auto. It is a perfect trophy for some athletic achievement to me.
Thanking you for an early reply,
Sincerely
Gertrude Kibler
