On front of document: “Waterloo 8 mo 26th 1824 D.Merritt & Son Esteemed Friend yours of the 19th came duly to hand. The bill of damages done to the Flour p Cat Shearman I have settled with him say $7.25/100 & passed to your credit that of Ruscoes I have made out according to your Statement but have not yet settled it with him he complains very much at the bill and says he will write you concerning it I have about 20 bbls flour to send to you which I have not had an oportunity to Send. New Wheat is now Selling for 6/ at which Price I have got upwards of 400 Bus I wish you to Informe me by what line of Boats I shall send it to you if you wish I will see Capt Phelps or some one belonging to that line and send it by them. [between lines “as I would like to send it away soon on acct of room”] I think there will not be much wheat to market this Fall as our harvest was very late. our harvest was got in in good order. some of the wheat a little shrunk I remain your Friend R.P.
