On right of sheet: “Albany 1st Feby 1830 Dear sir I Received your Favor of the 22nd ult which reminded me of my promis made to you when I was at your residence in waterloo I have no excuse to make for my neglect in not fulfilling my promis in writing to you some time ago I hope Sir you will not neglect to drop me a Line as often as Convenient it is with pleasure I Receive from any of my friends in Seneca a Sketch of what is going on there I was much pleased with the result of the Deliberations of the Supervisors of that County in regard to the poor and the poorhouse hoping if we can carry into effect your resolve it will be a barier against any attempt of a Division of our County But permit me to say to you that there is some midnight work going on in our County I suspect[inserted] from some inquiries made by one of the citizens of that county whom I lately conversed with pray Sir watch every movement and endeavor to check the disorder before it reaches this place for I will assure you the Spirit of revenge stands as high as [ninety?] I feel sorry to see any thing that comparably be converted into politicks into the Gates of the City" On back of sheet: "at present I think at last four out of the five members of the two counties are opposed to a Division of the Same but sir I fear it would avail but little if the question assumed a political aspect for myself I should be opposed to any Division at present there has been two citizens here from Ovid & at present two of your townsmen are here there business I have not yet learned very little of importance is Going on at the capital there is much Said about the bank Law the safety fund and rechartering banks and some days has been [ illegible due to missing paper] is called the [Lean?] Law but this day [illegible] has passed its third Reading (I must Close after saying I hope I may be more faithful) in regard to the District Attorney I am with you with all my hart I have the Honor to subscribe myself yours with due respect S.
