Failure of historic fieldhouse portico ceiling, East Potomac Park, September 2007. Needs repair.

The East Potomac Park Clubhouse (Fieldhouse) is in East Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. Built in 1921, the present-day clubhouse is one of two identical wings of the historic fieldhouse which served as the locker and changing rooms for the East Potomac Park Golf Course. Both the Fieldhouse and the golf course contribute to the East and West Potomac Parks National Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The fieldhouse structures were designed by architect Horace Whittier Peaslee and constructed using the ¿Earley Process,¿ a method for creating decorative exposed-aggregate concrete patented by noted concrete sculptor John Joseph Earley. One of the most significant features of this historic structure is the long portico, supported by columns with elaborate capitals. This project will repair the ceiling of this portico using methods that will retain as much of the historic fabric as possible as well as the unique detailing of the plasterwork.
