The Asociación Carnavalesca de Massachusetts brings Dominican Carnival folkloric traditions to Lowell's Folk Festival (2013). The group is led by Stelyn Mirabal of neighboring Lawrence, Massachusetts. Depicted here is a diablo cojuelo (limping devil) who's limp originates from falling to the Earth during his banishment. There is a tale that is said that the mask is meant to represent the Spaniard colonialists that whipped the indigenous people.
