HISTORICAL DATA: This brigade of Rhode Island and Connecticut Infantry regiments included the lst Rhode Island Regiment which contained numerous free blacks. The Brigade Commander, General Varnum, was one of the more colorful and outspoken general officers serving at Valley Forge.
