According to the Carnegie Institution of Washington this photo is not the CARNEGIE (brig). Photo identified as James Percy (J.P.) Ault, observer, taking readings on board C.I.W. magnetic survey vessel GALILEE (built by M. Turner) during Aug 1905 shakedown cruise from San Francisco to San Diego. This is beginning of Pacific magnetic survey, 1905-1908. The CARNEGIE succeeded the GALILEE in 1909 and surveyed through 1929.
