Linton J. White to Alice Mary Longfellow, 8 February 1907
Manuscript letter
Feb. 8, 1907
Dear Miss Longfellow,
Want to tell you of the many that enjoyed “The Blue Flower." After reading the first two papers I wrote my friend Mrs De Groat, of Atlanta, of having received the book from you, and of what I thought of it. She procured a copy from the “Carnegie" and was so impressed with it that she passed it to other friends and I am unable to tell just how far the influence of the work will go from her suggestion. My copy has been read in three [p. 2] different homes and is promised now to a fourth, Isn’t it odd how an act goes on indefinitely?
Note the article in the current "Century,” Yours must indeed be an interesting home. “It carries strength and refinement in all its outlines, and courage and cheerfulness are in its rooms," This must be a tribute to the present occupant as well as to its former ones. I should have added - “and kindness and in its rooms,"
Miss Longfellow, I am [p. 3] sending order by this mail for a years subscription to Uncle Remus's Magazine, to your address. Believe you will find this expressive of much that is best in Southern thought. Georgia is proud of Mr Harris and is willing to have the world accept him as typical of at least a phase of her life.
With kind wishes, I remain,
Very truly
J. Linton White
