Wildland firefighters walk through wooded areas with smoke and fire around them
Wildland firefighters walking in wooded areas in and near the Blue Jay Fire. This area is near the Lukens Lake trailhead. The fire started on July 24, 2020 and was the result of a lightening strike. The park opted to confine and contain the fire. The people in photos are members of Yosemite's Wildland Fire Crew 1.
National Park Service
Wildland firefighters walk around fires in order to establish and map their extent. These firefighters used phone GPS units to map their walk around the fire's perimeter and share that information with an incident commander and park management.
