Flight 93 National Memorial is a stark and serene landscape. One of the goals in designing the landscape was to restore life to land impacted by tragedy and trauma. Years of strip mining, resource extraction, acid mine drainage and then a sudden and horrific tragedy. Restoring the landscape has been a central theme since the park was established in 2002. Grassland birds, including upland sandpipers, love this place. Flowers on hallowed ground is the goal of this 130 acre, incredibly complex project.
