La Casa Nevada (Cottage at Nevada Falls, 1870-1897). In 1869-1870, Albert Snow rebuilt the old Vernal Fall trail for horse travel to La Casa Nevada and driving stock that he grazed in Little Yosemite Valley. La Casa Nevada consisted of three hotel buildings. The buildings were placed so that spray from Nevada Fall would reach the porch of one of the buildings.Mrs. Snow's doughnuts, baked apples, bread, pies, and catsup received many compliments from early travelers. Food supplies were brought up by mules. La Casa Nevada was mostly a lunch spot for visitors hiking Vernal and Nevada Falls. Those who went farther (to Glacer Point, Half Dome, or Little Yosemite Valley) were more likely to stay the night. The joke to visitors was that there was always 11 feet of snow at La Casa Nevada (Albert Snow was 5'11" and Emily Snow was 5'1"). Copied by Michael Dixon in 1985.
