R.P. Hunt Esq.
Dear Sir
We have your favor of yesterday. We will credit your a/c with the balance $396 18/100 and charge it to your agency a/c for your disbursements at the mill as you propose We shall send some cotton by the 5th but regret to say that the market does not shape quite according to our wishes - The money market also [affect?] a little contrary and [disappoints?] us. We negotiated to day the draft you made upon us for Cotton Mill a/c $3000 and dated it 29th Jany at 7% according to particulars herein enclosed – We were waiting for the price to go to 5 % but it has turned the other way and wise people think it is not to be worth less for some time – But opinions seem not worth much –The ‘Slippery [Customer?]’ did not go an eighth – We sold them at 7 ½ less 7 % and he claimed to buy them at 7 3/8 3000 dft charged to you $2880.92 credited [to you]
Yours truly
Almy, Patterson & Co”
