COPY OF LETTER TO ALL MEMBER OF COMMISSION
Mrs. Felix D. Catha
Member
Gettysburg Memorial Commission of Louisiana
Tangipahoa, Louisiana
Dear Mrs. Catha:
I am sending you hearwith [sic] a letter which I was requested to draft to all members of the Gettysburg Memorial Commission of Louisiana of which you are an important member.
As you know, last April after serious deliberation the Design Committee chose three sculptors from a large number of sculptors, both in Louisiana and throughout the country to prepare designs for the monument honoring the Confederate who gave their lives at the Battle of Gettysburg. Their appointments were confirmed by the Commission and since last spring these three distinguished sculptors have been creating their designs. These designs will be presented by them in scale models to the Commission in October in Baton Rouge.
It is realized how busy all the members of the Commission are with their own responsibilities, but over one hundred years have passed since the Battle of Gettysburg. When Governor McKeithen created the Gettysburg Memorial Commission of Louisiana, you were chosen to share in this important project. The monument will be on the Gettysburg Battlefield a long time. From the three distinguished sculptors who will meet with the Commission, one will be chosen to accept the great honor of creating Louisiana’s monument. They deserve your cooperation and support. Also this will be the opportunity for the sculptors and the members of the Commission to meet one another.
A formal notice of the meeting will be sent you at a later date, but it is hoped that you will keep the dates October 8, 9 and 10 for this important decision.
Looking forward to seeing you at that time, I am
Sincerely yours,
Angela Gregory, Consultant
