Standing for over 180 years, the McCarroll Place in Holly Springs, Mississippi is believed to have been constructed as early as 1833 possibly by Byrd Hill then later relocated to its present location by his brother-in-law, John R. McCarroll, around 1840. McCarroll was twice sheriff of Marshall County. Newer research suggests the structural offerings of the original home were that of two log cabins circa 1840, which were connected by a porch. Behind the home lies the slave quarters and brick kitchen that date back to the 1850s. The single-story Greek Revival-style architecture is suggested to have been added later. McCarroll descendants occupied the home un 2018.
