At the center of this monument is a metal sculpture surrounded on three sides by a "Wall of Honor," listing the names of 209,145 United Colored Troops on 166 burnished stainless steel plaques arranged by regiment. The plaques on this record memorialize the 2nd Regiment, including the 2nd Regiment, United States Colored Calvary (plaques A3 and A4); 2nd Regiment, United States Colored Light Artillery (plaques A4 and A5); and 2nd Regiment, United States Colored Infantry (plaques A5 and A6).
