Limpy's Wife Wearing Buffalo Bull's Scalp

LIBI_00012_07518; A black-and-white photograph of Limpy's wife wearing buffalo bull's scalp. The photo was taken on July 13, 1929, when she was 74 years old. The description alongside of print reads, "Magic hat made of buffalo bull's scalp about 1874. The lining has been changed since then. It was worn by a Cheyenne young woman as medicine protection from soldier bullets when Custer's cavalry attacked at the Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876. She then was 21 years old. She used this same hat on like occasions in those times. This photo made July 13, 1929, when she was 74 years old, at the time, I got the hat from her. She is the same person (Limpy's wife) who as a young woman was shot through the chest at the Battle of Upper Powder River in 1876. I examined the scars, in 1929 and in 1930." Signed by Thomas B.
