Rock Creek wildfire, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, September 2002
The Rock Creek wildfire was started by an abandoned campfire within a meadow, at approximately 11,000-ft. elevation in the backcountry of Sequoia National Park. Because of the lateness of the season, the high altitude, and the fire being surrounded by lake, creek, trail and rock, there was little potential for growth. Fire was allowed to spread under a confinement strategy and was monitored every few days by aerial recon.
