Close up of the nocks
Zoomed in image of one end of a bow showing where the bow strings once attached.
A close-up view of one end of the bow. The notches on a bow where the strings attached are called ‘nocks.’ The shape, size, and style of the nocks can be compared to bows in museum collections, bows in personal collections, and bows mentioned in oral histories. While research has just begun on this bow, this style of nock could be indicative of a Yup’ik or Alutiiq style bow; however, there is much more to learn.
