Vincennes, Indiana R. R. 5, Box 58 November 9, 1964 Mr. Kittridge A. Wing, Supt. Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325 Dear Mr. Wing: Thank you very much for your reply to my letter of Oct. 27th. and also for the letter which Mr. Harry W. Pfanz, Supervisory Historian reply of my letter of October 23. We have the assurance of Sen. Charles Schenck and Representative elect Ben Rickets that they will sponsor and introduce bills at the next session of the General Assembly of Indiana which is scheduled for early January 1965 to have an Indiana State Memorial placed at Gettysburg. Sen. Schenck suggested that I write to you and ask what is the average cost of the memorials placed recently and what is the proper procedure from now on. Would Indiana need to send someone to Gettysburg to choose the location for the Memorial? Would the contract for the monument be done by the State legislature or what is the proper procedure. Sen. Schenck is sure the legislature will approve placing the monument at Gettysburg but we are unsure of the proper procedure now. He will send the information to the legislative “bill writers” to get it in the proper form for a bill. Since Vincennes is the seat of government of the Northwest territory and the home of William Henry Harrison, the first territorial governor is here and the first hall of legislation is now on the campus of Cincennes University, given its charter in 1806 we feel it very appropriate that our legislators will be the ones to introduce this legislation for us. Thank you for your interest in this matter for us and your offer of help to us as we go further into this matter. Sincerely, Mrs. Carl W. Miller
