Volcanic wildfire in Kings Canyon backcountry, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, July 2005
Fire was reported by an NPS meadow monitor working in the Volcanic area. It was .1-acre fire at time of discovery and was apparently caused by an escaped and abandoned campfire. Burning was at 9700-feet elevation in lodgepole and whitebark pine duff. Since the fire was human-caused, it was decided to suppress. Two firefighters were dispatched to the scene via park helicopter, and fire was wet-mopped and contained within 24 hours.
