In 1949 a 14 foot tall statue of Cabrillo was erected. The official dedication of the statue took place on September 28, 1942, the 400th anniversary of Cabrillo’s landing. However, it was not until 1949 that the statue was finally moved to its place at Cabrillo National Monument. The currently standing statue is a replica, was placed in 1988.
